Doctors say they’re stretched too thin

Around 81% of doctors say they’re overworked in the 2024 Physician Compensation Report released last week.

Physicians have always had tough jobs, whether that means long hours, emotionally taxing conversations, or a dizzying amount of responsibility. But patients today are sicker than they were just a few decades ago, and often suffer from multiple comorbidities

Morale is so low that around 30% of doctors are considering early retirement—a potential disaster for a country in which 70% of people already feel like the health care system has failed them.

Patient complaints expedited under new rules

Patients who say they were denied emergency abortions and other emergency care can now file complaints directly with the federal government, officials announced last week.

Biden administration officials say that overhauling the process — which historically has been led by state agencies and involved a complex series of decisions — will expedite the federal government’s ability to investigate patients’ complaints and provide more transparency into emergency care access.

“We want to make sure that everyone knows their rights and can take action to help make sure the health care system is safe for everyone”
